When it rains
I’ll watch with renewed awe
the maniacal swaying of trees
the lightning and thunder
When it rains
I’ll look up at the sky and wonder
how bears, horses and dragons
can all turn into drops of water?
When it rains
I’ll pull out my mud print dress
and gambol in the liquid chatter
When it rains
I’ll wear a silly grin on my face
and hum a song
When it rains
When will it rain?

(Penned before the rains began in earnest!
Inspired to some extent by the song from the movie 'Singing in the Rain')

ReplyDeleteWe felt like that yesterday when rain came back to us after taking a long sabbatical. Good poem.
ReplyDeleteI have heard of it raining cats and dogs, but bears, horses and dragons?
ReplyDeleteLove the rain, it makes everywhere appear clean and fresh again.
an enjoyable read! the child within is awakened specially the thought of those cloud figures turning into raindrops. smile, there's a rain of thoughts :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Vivin, Bendedspoon.
ReplyDeleteTino, as kids we imagine clouds to look like so many different animals.. those are the bears and dragons :)
We all remember the rain when it is absent for a time. Not this year, though!
ReplyDeleteWe're having nothing but rain and wind right now. This makes me want to go out and play in it!
ReplyDeleteI love cloud watching ... as well as the sound of a good rain ... unfortunately, we have neither at the moment. This was a fun post ~ thank you for sharing.

ReplyDeleteThanks Linda. I did spend some time finding the right words.
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm John. I really like your poem "When it Rains". I believe that really good poetry brings emotions or memories to the reader, and yours just did that to me. In fact I may even be inspired to write a poem about the memories that just flashed through me as I read your poem. Thank you for that....
